Citing the presence of booming casinos in neighboring countries now some people want to allow casinos in Thailand. This is a proposal of a small group of members of the National Reform Council (NRC). Pattaya stands as a possible site for a casino at the top.

This proposal in itself is nothing new and was proposed some years ago by the former Thaksin government Chinnawat. However, the proposal was rejected by a strong domestic opposition.

At 10:30pm on the 21st of July, Mr. Naris Niramaiwong, the Sheriff of Chonburi District received reports that a private residence in Chokchai Village 7 has been opened as an illegally run casino.
Police officers and local military personnel were recruited to inspect the site.
During the course of the search, the authorities apprehended four female gamblers who had been playing cards and drinking alcohol inside the private residence.
Officers seized over 6,500 Baht and poker cards which had been used in the illegal activity.
From further investigation, the women, who were mostly foreigner’s wives or civil servants, told officers that they gambled everyday as a way to relax and have fun.
The authorities reminded the women that such behaviour is contrary to the laws of Thailand and those found to be engaging in such activities will face prosecution in accordance with the law.
